Target User Research
Mental health has long been overlooked as an important social issue that needs to be addressed at a political level. Many times, this is due to a lack of understanding and awareness of mental health issues, which has led to stigma and discrimination against those who suffer from mental illnesses. Additionally, mental health is often seen as a personal or private matter, and there is a general lack of political will to invest in mental health initiatives. This is especially true in Asian cultural settings, where the topic of mental health is often regarded as taboo and even fake.
However, this perspective must change as mental health issues are becoming more prevalent and impacting society as a whole. Mental illnesses can have a significant impact on individuals' quality of life, affecting their ability to work, study, and socialize. Furthermore, untreated mental health issues can lead to more severe problems, such as suicide, which is a leading cause of death worldwide.
It's worth noting that one demographic that's particularly affected by mental health issues is people in their 20s. In Korea, it was found that over half the cases of solitary death were among youth in their 20s (health.choson.com). This age group is often dealing with the pressures of fitting into society, finding their future career paths, and navigating the transition from adolescence to adulthood. These challenges can be overwhelming and can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and social isolation. In fact, recent studies have shown that young adults are experiencing record levels of mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. It's essential to address these issues and provide support to this demographic to prevent long-term impacts on their mental and physical health, as well as their social and economic well-being.
